We were met with a wonderful sight this morning as we went to visit the statue of Tommy.
The 'Tears of victory' poppy display had been laid at Tommy's feet.
"It's Tommy!" Gracie
"He died in the war." Ethan
"There's 100 poppies!" Amy
Back at school, Megan shared her understanding of the resin poppies.
"You know the names of your families or your daddies or your special granddad's, you remember them. It's their names and numbers."
"That's the country flag, England." Megan
This afternoon in the Beach Hut we discussed our morning experiences...
"We saw Tommy first and went to the beach." Megan
"The soldier." Marley
"He a soldier and he fighted in the world and now he's dead." Geoffrey
"He was bending down." Gracie
"The countries was fighting each other and Tommy never came back. Granddad told me in the newspaper." Megan
"They died. They fighted all over." Edie
"The soldiers are very good. They fight the baddies." Marley
"They got swords and they fight. My dad's in the army. He drives vehicles." Ethan
"I know what else they did in the newspaper. They hid in caves to protect themselves so they didn't get dead. They tried to survive." Megan
"My dad wears a uniform but it looks different." Ethan
We looked at modern day soldiers and soldiers from the past.
"I know what the old hats are made of... metal to protect their heads." Megan
"They also wear suits to protect their bodies." Geoffrey
We discussed the poppy and what it means.
"Poppies are important 'cause you have to remember the soldiers who died in the big war and the pets." Megan
"I wish I could stay here forever!" Amy
Thank you to one of our dad's who had the fantastic idea of using the stones to write our message.
"BEACH SCHOOL ROCKS!" Marley's Dad.
Thank you again for the support given by our parent helpers. You all shared that you had had a wonderful day and the children did too!
